The Constitutional Court welcomes Justices of the Estonian Supreme Court and the Lithuanian Constitutional Court

On the 1st and the 2nd of October, the Justices of the Constitutional Court will meet with Judges of the Estonian Supreme Court and the Lithuanian Constitutional Court in the framework of tri-lateral co-operation. In three working sessions, the parties will discuss the recent case law of the Courts and will discuss several relevant issues of constitutional law pertaining to the area of taxes and to ensuring inviolability of human dignity

The Estonian delegation will be led by Chief Justice of the Estonian Supreme Court Villu Kõve. Members of the delegation will be Justices Viive Ligi and Peeter Roosma of the Estonian Supreme cCourt, as well as Adviser to the Chief Justice Karin Leichter-Tammisto.

The Lithuanian delegation, in turn, will be led by President of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court Dainius Žalimas. The delegation will consist of three Justices of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court – Elvyra Baltutytė, Vytautas Greičius, and Gediminas Mesonis.

The aim of the tri-lateral meeting is to reinforce the judicial dialogue of the Baltic States and to promote judicial co-operation by discussing relevant national- and European-level constitutional law issues.

As reported before, the previous year Justices of the Constitutional Court visited the Estonian Supreme Court, whereas two years ago the Latvian Constitutional Court, in co-operation with the Lithuanian Constitutional Court, organised a conference on the criteria for assessing the quality of laws in rulings by the constitutional courts.
