The delegation of the Constitutional Court will have an opportunity to visit the Supreme Court of Estonia and to get to know the model of constitutional review in Estonia, which is different from the one in place in Latvia. The Estonian colleagues also showed interest in a more detailed discussion of the Latvian Constitutional Court’s experience with assessing constitutionality of the administrative territorial reform, as well as in learning about the right of local authorities to file an application with the Constitutional Court.

The programme of the visit includes a joint working session on the Role of Constitutional Courts in Reforming the Society. A representative of each delegation will give a presentation on the part played by the constitutional court and its judgments in forming legal thought in the society, strengthening the constitutional identity and promoting development of the state. The presentations will be followed by an extensive discussion among the judges. The Latvian experience, from the perspective of the Latvian Constitutional Court, will be presented by the President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele.
