Ineta Ziemele re-elected to the office of President of the Constitutional Court; Sanita Osipova re-elected as her deputy

Today, on 6 May, the Constitutional Court convened a sitting to elect the President and the Vice President of the Court. Ineta Ziemele has been re-elected President of the Constitutional Court for the term of three years, Sanita Osipova has been re-elected as her deputy for three years.

In view of the emergency situation declared in the state to limit the spread of COVID-19, the election of the President and the Vice President of the Constitutional Court was held remotely in video conference mode, with the secret ballot organised in an electronic environment.

Justice Ineta Ziemele has been holding the office of President of the Constitutional Court since 8 May 2017, while Justice Sanita Osipova has been Vice President of the Court since 16 May 2017.

The President of the Constitutional Court chairs the Court’s sittings, organises the work of the Court and represents the Constitutional Court. The Vice President of the Court helps the Court’s President to perform the said duties and stands in for the President in their absence.
