The President of the Constitutional Court was granted a high award of the Republic of Lithuania

Today on 6 July 2012, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia Mr Gunārs Kūtris would leave for Lithuania where he would take part in a ceremonial event devoted to the Coronation Anniversary of the King Mindaugas. During the event, Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania would present the Commander’s Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania to Mr G. Kūtris.

The Order of for Merits to Lithuania is an award, presented by the President of Lithuania, which may be conferred on the citizens of Lithuania and foreign nationals for distinguished services promoting name of Lithuania, expanding a develop international relationships, for distinguished merits in social, culture, science, business, sport, military and in other areas. The award is presented in five classes, namely, Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Commander, and Grand Cross.

When holding the office of the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr Gunārs Kūtris has made an important contribution into facilitation of cooperation between the Latvian and the Lithuanian constitutional Courts. Annual conference of the Latvian and the Lithuanian constitutional court has already become a tradition. During the conference, judges discuss topical issues of Law and determine trends in development of constitutional justice. This year, the conference would take place in Latvia on 6 – 7 September, and the topics under discussion would be constitutional-legal aspects of state budgetary procedure.
