Sanita Osipova elected to the office of the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court

Today, on May 16, after a break in the court sitting that was announced last week, the Constitutional Court continued election of the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court. Justice of the Constitutional Court Sanita Osipova was elected deputy of the President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele with a majority vote for the term of three years.

Sanita Osipova has served as the Justice of the Constitutional Court since 17 August 2011, and currently she is the Justice with the longest experience in working at the Constitutional Court. Sanita Osipova is a doctor of law and Professor at the University of Latvia Faculty of Law. Formerly she was the Head of Department of Legal Theory and History at the University of Latvia Faculty of Law. She has also worked as a visiting professor and visiting researcher at the Westphalian Wilhelms University Münster.

Sanita Osipova is the author of more than eighty publications on issues of legal theory and history, as well as sociology of law. Her work has been published not only in Latvian, English, Russian, but also in German, Lithuanian, and French. She has managed various projects in legal science, given presentations at scientific conferences of international and legal scale, as well as engaged in extensive research activities. Sanita Osipova is the author and co-author of a number of collections of research papers and textbooks.

In 2008 Sanita Osipova was awarded Certificate of Recognition by the Rector of the University of Latvia for her contribution to legal science and training of the young generation of students, whereas in 2010 she was decorated with the 3^rd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia. In 2014 Sanita Osipova received Writ of Gratitude of the Minister for Justice of the Republic of Latvia for her contribution to the development of judicial system and law policy.

Until 31 March 2017 Uldis Ķinis served as the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court. On 31 March 2017 Uldis Ķinis’ mandate of the Justice of the Constitutional Court expired.
