President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele met with the Ambassador of Slovakia to Latvia Ladislav Babčan

On Friday, 21 January, the President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele met with the Ambassador of Slovakia to Latvia Ladislav Babčan, to discuss matters related to the development of a common European legal space, which are of current importance to both states.

In the discussion, Ineta Ziemele focused on the forthcoming conference on the constitutional traditions of the European Union, which is to take place in March, jointly organised by the Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union, and said she was delighted that a delegation from the Constitutional Court of Slovakia planned to attend the conference. She also introduced the Ambassador to the competence of the Constitutional Court, told about its recent case law and the future challenges to the development of Latvian constitutional justice.

Both parties to the discussion were equally of the opinion that cooperation between the constitutional courts in the European Union should be strengthened to facilitate formation of a progressive common rule-of-law space.
