Official visit of the Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan to the Constitutional Court

On Tuesday, 16 May, His Excellency Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the delegation led by him visited the Constitutional Court in the framework of his official visit to Latvia. At the Constitutional Court the delegation was welcomed by the President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele, Justices of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš and Artūrs Kučs, as well as Head of the Legal Department of the Constitutional Court Alla Spale.

President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele presented to members of the delegation the Latvian model of constitutional review and mandate of the Constitutional Court. She also highlighted the binding nature and enforcement of judgements of the Constitutional Court.

Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldashev provided an insight to representatives of the Constitutional Court into the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan and reforms that currently are to be implemented in the state. Information about the functions of the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan and lines of its activities was also provided.

At the conclusion of the meeting the delegation of Uzbekistan invited the Constitutional Court of Latvia, in the framework of cooperation between the two states, to support judges and employees of the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan by sharing its experience in issues of constitutional legal proceedings.

Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan His Excellency Nigmatilla Yuldashev during the visit to the Constitutional Court was accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Latvia His Excellency Afzal Artikov, the Head of Department for International Relations of the Secretariat of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rustam Giyasov, and the Third Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Latvia Zhasurbek Saidahmedov.
