07.06.2019.

From 5 to 7 June, the Justice of the Constitutional Court Artūrs Kučs attends an international seminar on the accessibility of judicial institutions to disabled persons, held in Trier, Germany. The seminar foregrounds the debate on the way the accessibility of judicial institutions is ensured to disabled persons, in view of the requirements of the regulatory enactments of the European Union (hereinafter – EU), in interconnection with the Convention of the United Nations Organisations (hereinafter – UN) “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” (UNCRPD).

The aim of the seminar is to analyse particular case studies and to examine, through discussions, how to ensure effectively respect of the rights of disabled persons with regard to, in particular, accessibility of courts, averting possible risks of inequality and discrimination, as well as dispelling possible legal obstacles in exercising a disabled person’s rights in full.

The seminar is organised by the Academy of European Law (ERA, Europäische Rechtsakademie). The seminar is organized for judges, prosecutors and court staff of the EU Member States, who work, on daily basis, with matters pertaining to the accessibility of courts to disabled persons.
