Today, on 4 September, the Constitutional Court, in co-operation with the Ministry of Justice and the Court Administration, for the third successive year announces a competition, which gives an opportunity to judges from courts of general jurisdiction and administrative courts to apply for experience sharing at the Constitutional Court. During the period of six months (from 1 January 2020 until 30 June 2020), one judge from courts of general jurisdiction or administrative courts will have the possibility to perform the duties of an advisor to the Constitutional Court, to develop professionally in matters related to interpretation of the Satversme, proceedings before the Constitutional Court and protection of human rights.

President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele underscores: “This experience sharing programme takes place in the framework of judicial dialogue, initiated by the Constitutional Court. It is really necessary in a modern democratic state governed by the rule of law. Moreover, each judge, as the bearer of judicial power, must facilitate his or her professional development. We are happy to be able to continue the tradition this year, ensuring to one of judges the possibility to share his or her experience and to upgrade his or her professional knowledge while working at the Constitutional Court.

The programme for sharing experience at the Constitutional Court for judges from courts of general jurisdiction and administrative courts was launched in September 2017, with the support of the Ministry of Justice and the Court Administration. Judge Valdis Vazdiķis from Riga Regional Court and Līga Biksiniece-Martinova from the Administrative District Court of Riga Court House have already performed the duties of an advisor to the Constitutional Court.
