Covid-19: The Constitutional Court takes measures to ensure continuity of examining cases and to facilitate the fight against the spread of the epidemic (Amended version)

16.03.2020.

Pursuant to Cabinet Decision of 12 March 2020 declaring the state of emergency and amendments made on 13 and 14 March to Cabinet Order No 103 of 12 March 2020 declaring the state of emergency adopted by the extraordinary session of the Saeima on 16 March, until 14 April of this year the Constitutional Court will be taking precautionary measures to suppress the spread of the epidemic. This will involve adjustments to the operational procedures of the Constitutional Court in order to meet public health interests.

Starting 13 March 2020, the Constitutional Court encourages potential applicants to use primarily electronic means of filing applications with the Court or leave them in the designated mailbox located at the Court entrance. Case participants will be enabled to review materials in cases under examination via electronic means, upon request emailed to the Court at tiesa@satv.tiesa.gov.lv.

All events in the Constitutional Court premises that are not directly connected with court proceedings, e.g. excursions for school children, visits of foreign delegations, educational seminars, have been cancelled indefinitely.

The measures taken by the Constitutional Court are necessary to protect the health of its staff while participating in activities of public authorities aimed at suppressing the spread of the virus and ensuring uninterrupted work of the Court.

In accordance with the adjusted operational procedures, the Court will continue its work to the extent permitted by the state of emergency in place. New operational procedures may be announced subject to a change of the situation.
