Advisor of the Constitutional Court Kristaps Tamužs participates in the Superior Court Network Focal Points Forum organised by the European Court of Human Rights

From 6 to 7 June, the Advisor of the Constitutional Court Kristaps Tamužs participated in the Superior Court Network Focal Points Forum, organised by the European Court of Human Rights, in Strasbourg, France.

At the annual meeting, the judicial co-operation of the previous year was reviewed and assessed, and also the scheduled future measures for promoting communication between courts were discussed. In the framework of the meeting, a seminar on the recent judicature of the European Court of Human Rights in matters of migration and terrorism was held. During the meeting, Protocol 16 to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedom as well as the advisory opinion adopted in accordance with this Protocol were discussed

The European Court of Human Rights established the Superior Court Network at the end of 2015 with the aim of facilitating the transposition of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the Member States. The Constitutional Court joined the Network in 2017.

Currently, the Superior Court Network comprises 77 courts from 36 Member States of the Council of Europe. The first Focal Point Forum was held in 2017. It is convened annually with the aim of facilitating co-operation between the European Court of Human Rights and the supreme courts of the Member States of the Council of Europe, and developing united understanding of human rights issues, thus reinforcing the development of stable and high quality European legal space in the area of human rights.
