Daiga Rezevska

Daiga Rezevska was born on 18 February 1974.

In 1996 she graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, where she continued studies in master’s sub-programme of Science of State Law and Politology, but in 2002 she obtained a doctor’s degree in law. Daiga Rezevska started working in 1993 as an assistant at the Department of Theory and History of Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. She has held various academic positions at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, at the Riga Graduate School of Law, and at the Eurofaculty.

From 1997 to 1999 she was an assistant to a Judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia.

In 2001 she was among the founders of the Institute of Public Law.

Daiga Rezevska worked the Director of the publishing house “Ratio iuris” and was the editor-in-chief of legal journal “Likums un Tiesības”. From 2005 to 2010 was a member of Public Utilities Commission. Since 2007 was a Deputy Arbitrator of OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration.

In 2010 Daiga Rezevska became the acting Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, and soon afterwards was appointed the Deputy Dean. Daiga Rezevska served in this office until 2012, at the same time chairing the Department of Theory and History of Law.

In 2010 she was elected professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. Since 2013 she has been a visiting professor at the Riga Graduate School of Law. From 2012 to 2014 was the expert of legal science at the Science Council of Latvia.

Daiga Rezevska has been a member of the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Law established by the President of Latvia. She has acted as an expert in numerous Latvian and international projects.

Daiga Rezevska is the author of numerous publications and several books on issues of constitutional law, general principles of law, legal method and other issues.

On 15 October 2015 Daiga Rezevska was approved as the Judge of the Constitutional Court. Daiga Rezevska entered into office on 26 April 2016 and served as a Judge until 23 May 2022.

Since 2016 Daiga Rezevska has been an ad hoc Judge of the European Court of Human Rights.

On 3 May 2018 Daiga Rezevska was awarded the 2nd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System. It is for particularly significant contribution to the development of the justice system and judicature, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as for particularly significant scientific achievements in the field of law, development of international relations and promoting knowledge and professionalism of officials belonging to the system of justice.
