Justices of the Constitutional Court meet with the Judges of the Belgian and Czech Constitutional Courts in the framework of trilateral co-operation

From 10 to 12 June, the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court Sanita Osipova, Justices of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš, Gunārs Kusiņš, Jānis Neimanis and the Assistant to the President of the Constitutional Court Ketija Strazda are visiting the Constitutional Court of Belgium, where, in the framework of trilateral co-operation, a meeting with the Judges from the Constitutional Court of Belgium and the Constitutional Court of Czechia is held. During this meeting, the judges will share experience and will examine a number of relevant issues of constitutional law.

During the meeting, the judges will discuss aspects of bioethics in the case law of constitutional courts and will examine the legal consequences in each of the countries. The Vice-president of the Constitutional Court Sanita Osipova will provide an insight into the aspects of bioethics that have been examined and explained in the rulings by the Constitutional Court, the Judge of the Constitutional Court Jānis Neimanis, in turn, will speak about the consequences of the Constitutional Court’s judgements in Latvia.

In the framework of the visit, the Justices will also visit the province of Sint-Martems-Latem and meet its mayor Agnes Lannoo.

This will be the third meeting of the judges held in the framework of the trilateral co-operation. Two years ago the delegations visited Riga , and on that occasion the parties discussed reviewing the legality of the legislative procedure. Whereas three years ago the meeting was held in Brno, where the judges debated the co-operation of the constitutional courts with the Court of Justice of the European Union.
