Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia

Juris Juriss was born on 10 December 1975.

In 2013, obtained a doctoral degree in criminal law from the University of Latvia.

From 1999 to 2000, Juris Juriss held the office of a prosecutor at the Prosecution Office for Investigating Financial and Economic Crimes. From 2000 to 2009, worked at the Specialised Prosecution Office for Organised Crime and Other Areas. In 2009, continued his career, becoming the prosecutor at the Prosecutor’s General Office, Criminal Justice Department, Division for Investigating Particularly Serious Crimes. From 2021, served as the head prosecutor at the Prosecutor’s General Office, Criminal Justice Department, Division for Coordination the Combatting with Money Laundering.

Has specialised in the area of criminal law and criminal procedure law, including issues related to prevention and combatting legalisation of proceeds of crime, has been actively involved in identifying the relevant issues in this area, and has provided training to investigators and prosecutors, as well as to judges.

Has participated in several working groups that drafted, inter alia, guidelines on practice for law enforcement agencies to ensure a uniform approach to investigating legalisation of proceeds of crime, increasing the minimum threshold of evidence, and applying fair sanctions.

Juris Juriss has long academic and scientific experience. Ha has worked as a docent at the Police Academy of Latvia, as well as at EKA University of Applied Science. Currently, he is a docent at the University of Latvia, Turība University, and Alberta College.

In 2021, was recognised by the US Department of State as the Anti-Corruption Champion, in 2002, was appointed Commander of the Cross of Recognition.

On 31 October 2024, was approved as the Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia. He entered office on 21 November 2024.
