Viktors Skudra was elected the Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court

Today, on 28 June, in the Constitutional Court, elections of the Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court took place, and Viktors skudra was elected unanimously the Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court.

The elections were organized because the former Deputy Chairperson Juris Jelāgins resigned from the office of a justice due to the expiry of his term of office.

Viktors Skudra is a justice of the Constitutional Court since 2007. His professional activities before the office of a justice were related, among the rest things, with work in public prosecutor’s office and a position of a lawyer. Viktors Skudra also was the first Minister of Justice after restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court is elected from among the justices of the Constitutional Court by secret ballot. The Deputy Chairperson shall assist the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court in performing the duties of the Chairperson, as well as substitute the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court in his/her absence.
