09.04.2009.

The Constitutional Court has decided to terminate proceedings in the following cases:

  • 2009-03-03 “On Compliance of the Amount of Toilet Soap Provided for in Appendix 3 of the 19 December 2006 Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 1022 “Regulations Regarding the Norms of Material Provision for Food and Household Needs of Prisoners” with Article 91 and Article 111 of the Satversme (Constitution) of the Republic of Latvia”. The contested norm established that female prisoners are provided with toilet soap, whereas male prisoners, except for certain cases, were not provided with toilet soap. After initiation of the case, the Cabinet of Ministers amended the contested norm by providing for equal norms of toilet soap for all prisoners.
  • 2008 “On Compliance of Section 1 and Section 2 of the Saeima Election Law and Section 2 of the Law “On National Referendums and Initiation of Legislation” with Article 6, Article 8 and Article 91 of the Satversme (Constitution) of the Republic of Latvia”. The contested norm of the Saeima Election Law prohibited imprisoned persons to participate in the elections; however this norm was amended by repealing the prohibition.

The decisions of the Constitutional Court are final and not subject to appeal. They shall be published in the newspaper “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.
