President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele participates in the XXII International Conference of Yerevan

On Thursday, 19 October, the President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele and the Head of the Legal Department of the Constitutional Court Alla Spale go to Armenia, where they will participate in the XXII International Conference of Yerevan, which will last until 21 October. The topic of this year’s Conference is “The Role of Constitutional Court in Overcoming Constitutional Conflicts”.

At the conference Ineta Ziemele will give a presentation on protecting the core of constitutional identity in the judicature of the Constitutional Court. Ineta Ziemele will provide to the participants of the Conference extensive insight into how the concept of the core of constitutional identity is understood in Latvia and into the cases, where it requires constitutional protections. Ineta Ziemele will explain the judicature of the Constitutional Court regarding this matter thus far and the possible challenges awaiting the Constitutional Court related to protecting the core of constitutional identity in the future.

The international conference is organised by the Constitutional Court of Armenia in co-operation with the European Commission for Democracy through Law (The Venice Commission). The Yerevan International Conference is an annual event, which has been organised since 1996.
