Irēna Kucina is elected as Vice-President of the Constitutional court of the Republic of Latvia

Today, on 10 March 2022, Justice Irēna Kucina was elected as Vice-President of the Constitutional court of Latvia.

The election of the Vice-President was held remotely, via videoconference. The secret ballot was carried out by electronic means.

Statement by the elected Vice-President Justice Irēna Kucina: “I will spare no effort to ensure that the Court functions effectively. I am grateful to Justices of the Constitutional court for this honour. Together with the President of the Court Aldis Laviņš and all the Justices, we are a solid team promoting a democratic Latvia under the rule of law, and ensuring the protection of fundamental rights for everyone”.

The Vice-president of the Constitutional Court helps the Court’s President to perform the duties of office and replaces the Court’s President during his or her absence.
