Gunārs Kusiņš

Judge of the Constitutional Court

Gunārs Kusiņš was born on 14 May 1963.

In 1989 he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. From 1989 to 1993 was a lecturer at the Department of State and International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. Since 1993 he has been a lecturer at the Department of the Science of State Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia.

From 1990 to 1993 Gunārs Kusiņš served as an advisor to the Commission of Legislative Issues of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia. From 1993 to 2014 he was the Head of the Saeima Legal Bureau.

From 2007 to 2013 was a member of the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Law established by the President of Latvia.

Gunārs Kusiņš is the author of a number of publications on issues of constitutional law.

On 1 May 2010, Gunārs Kusiņš was awarded the Order of Three Stars (Class III).

On 6 February 2014, Gunārs Kusiņš was approved as the Judge of the Constitutional Court and entered into office on 19 February 2014.
