Address by the President of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš, upon concluding his term in office
President of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš:
“Esteemed people of Latvia,
Today is my last day in the office of the Constitutional Court’s Judge and the office of the President of the Constitutional Court. During this decade, together with my colleagues, Judges of the Constitutional Court, we have adopted countless rulings, in each case keeping in mind, first and foremost, how the outcome will influence the life of every inhabitant of Latvia, as well as its impact upon the future generations. Let us recall that the Constitutional Court was created by the Latvian people for the people, it is our common Court, serving everyone in a democratic state governed by the rule of law. Through numerous applications submitted to the Constitutional Court, we are able to see and to understand the everyday life of the Latvian people and, where necessary, are able to provide legal protection. We have created the Constitutional Court that is open, is able to listen and does not shy away from conversations with society.
State support for its people increases the sense of belonging to Latvia for every inhabitant of Latvia, which, in the current geopolitical circumstances, is very important for reinforcing national security. Therefore, let us be vigilant, let us be united, let us take care of ourselves, our loved ones and the common good of society. Let us appreciate that we can live in a free, independent and democratic state where our lives are governed by the Constitution and law!
Looking forward to meeting you during future challenges!”
