22.12.2021.

A special episode of the Constitutional Court podcast Tversme is available as today. The President of the Court of Justice of the European Union Koen Lenaerts discusses with Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Judge and President of the Constitutional Court (2015-2020) Ineta Ziemele.

This episode is specially dedicated to the dialogue between the constitutional courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union and more specifically how the legal systems and respective constitutional traditions interact.

On 2 and 3 September 2021 the Constitutional Court and the European Union held a two-day conference “The United in Diversity: Between Common Constitutional Traditions and National Identities”. It was a unique event, bringing together, for the first time in the history of the European Union, judges from the constitutional courts of the EU Member States and the European Court of Justice to find a common understanding of how to reconcile European unity with national constitutional traditions and national identities. This episode of the podcast was created during the conference. The President of the Court of Justice of the European Union Koen Lenaerts and Judge Ineta Ziemele are discussing here the main ideas of the conference, as well as the duty of courts to ensure the application of European Union law, equality, the rule of law and human rights.
