Webinar “Role of the Constitutional Court in ensuring the conformity of national law with the EU law”
Today at 11.00 (UCT+2), the Constitutional Court in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Latvia and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will run a webinar on the topic of “Role of the Constitutional Court in ensuring the conformity of national law with the EU law”. The webinar will be streamed live, in Latvian and English, on the Constitutional Court’s YouTube channel. The purpose of the webinar is to discuss the most effective ways for the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court to ensure protection of the applicants’ rights in line with both the European Union law and the specific scope of competence conferred by the legislator on the higher judicial authorities of the Republic of Latvia.
The webinar will be opened by the President of the Constitutional Court Sanita Osipova and the President of the CJEU Koen Lenaerts. Presentations will be given also by the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Aigars Strupišs, the CJEU judge Ineta Ziemele, and the President of the CJEU Koen Lenaerts. The presentations will be followed by a discussion among the participants.
