On Friday, 26 October, the participants of the intensive study programme at the Riga Graduate School of Law from Eastern Europe, the Balkan countries and the states of Central Asia visited the Constitutional Court. At the Constitutional Court, the visitors were welcomed by the Advisors of the Constitutional Court Kristaps Tamužs and Uldis Krastiņš. The Advisors provided to the participants an insight into the history and jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court, explaining the role of the Constitutional Court in the constitutional order of Latvia as a democratic state governed by the rule of law.

Kristaps Tamužs focused on the issues linked to the effectiveness of the legal proceedings before the Constitutional Court, drawing the participants’ attention to the procedural terms defined in the Constitutional Court Law. Uldis Krastiņš, in turn, told the participant about the recent judgements of the Constitutional Court, the findings included in them and the significance of these judgements.

At the end of the meeting, the participants asked questions and shared their experience related to various aspects of the constitutional law. They were particularly interested in the enforcement of the rulings by the Constitutional Court, as well as the separation of  the Constitutional Court’s and  the legislator’s competence.
