The Mandate of the Constitutional Court Justice  Aija  Branta Expires

Today, 24 April, is the last day in office of the Justice of the Constitutional Court for the President of the Constitutional Court Aija Branta. She came into office on 25 March 2004. Pursuant to the Constitutional Court Law,  the term of office for the Constitutional Court Justice is ten years. After expiry of this term the Justice continues  performing  the duties of a Justice of the Constitutional Court until  a judgement is pronounced in the Constitutional Court case, the adjudication of which was started with his or her participation.

The Constitutional Court is currently examining a case, in which a ruling was adopted today.

Tomorrow, on 25 April, Aldis Laviņš will  assume the office of the Constitutional Court Justice. Since before being appointed to the office of a Justice of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš was  a Supreme Court Judge, he does not have to take the oath of a Justice repeatedly.
