On Thursday, 1 June, President of the Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Latvia Miroslav Kosek.

During the meeting the successful cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of both countries was discussed. The parties positively assessed the tri-lateral meeting of the justices of the Constitutional Courts of Latvia, the Czech Republic and Belgium in Brno (the Czech Republic), during which the right of Constitutional Courts to refer a question to the Court of Justice of the European Union for prejudicial ruling was discussed. The parties agreed that this cooperation should be continued and sharing of experience among justices should be facilitated.

The next meeting between representatives of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic is scheduled for December of this year. The Constitutional Court is organising an international conference on reviewing budgetary issues at the Constitutional Court, as well as a trilateral meeting of the Latvian, Czech and Belgian Constitutional Courts to discuss principles and criteria of legality assessment in the judgements of the Constitutional Court.
