Vineta Muižniece

Vineta Muižniece was born in 1956.

In 1984, she graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, and in 2000 obtained the master’s degree in social sciences in the Faculty of Economics and Management in the University of Latvia.

Vineta Muižniece has served in Government Administration of the Republic of Latvia and the Legal Department of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia. From 1991 to 1993, she worked as a lecturer in the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, but from 1993 to 1998 – as an Adviser to the State President on legislation.

In 1998, Vineta Muižniece was elected a member of the 7th Saeima. Since then, she started serving in the Saeima Legal Affairs Committee, as well as directing the Saeima Mandate and Submissions Committee. From 2002 to 2004, as a member of the 8th Saeima, she was working in the Legal Affairs Committee.

In 2004, Vineta Muižniece held the office of Minister of Justice of the Republic of Latvia. Having returned to the position of a member of the Saeima, she started working in the Saeima European Affairs Committee and the Saeima Public Administration of Local Government Committee. However, from 2005 to 2009 Vineta Muižniece was a Vice-Chairman of the 8th Saeima, and, since 2006, – a Vice-Chairman of the 9th Saeima. From 2008 to 2010 she directed the Saeima Legal Affairs Committee.

In May 2010 Vineta Muižniece was confirmed in office as a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia. She left office in 2014.
