Justice of the Constitutional Court Jānis Neimanis participates in the international conference organised by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the balance between national security and human rights as well as the role of constitutional courts in maintaining this balance

From 26 to 27 June, Jānis Neimanis, the Justice of the Constitutional Court, will participate in the international conference organised by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the balance between national security and human rights as well as the role of constitutional courts in maintaining this balance (“Human Rights and National Security: Ensuring the Balance of Human Rights and the Interests of the State. The Role of the Body of Constitutional Jurisdiction”).

At the conference, Jānis Neimanis will give a presentation “The Role of Ordinary and Administrative Courts: Improving the Protection of Citizens’ Fundamental Rights”, underscoring that judges from the courts of general jurisdiction should have the possibility to examine compatibility of the applicable legal norms with a legal norm of higher legal force, including the Constitution, by turning to the Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine is organising this conference in co-operation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
