17 / 05 / 2013 A Case Initiated on the Criteria for Release from Administrative Liability in the Case of Pettiness of the Violation
On 15 May the 1st Panel of the Constitutional Court initiated a case “On Compliance of the Words in Section 21 (2) of Latvian Administrative Violations Code “if the fine intended for it does not exceed 30 lats” with the first sentence of Article 91 of the Satversme of the Republic of Latvia.”

17 / 05 / 2013 The Norm of the Civil Procedure Law on the Right of a Judge to Submit a Protest against a Judgement is Incompatible with the Satversme
On 14 May 2013 the Constitutional Court pronounced Judgement in Case No. 2012-13-01 “On Compliance of Section 483 of the Civil Procedure Law insofar as it Establishes the Right of the Chairperson of the Senate Department of Civil Cases to submit a protest with Article 92 of the Satversme of the Republic of Latvia.”

14 / 05 / 2013 The Norm Prohibiting Judges to Take Membership in Political Parties Complies with the Satversme
On 10 May 2013 the Constitutional Court pronounced Judgement in Case No. 2012-16-01 “On Compliance of Section 86(3) of the Law “On Judicial Power” with Article 102 of the Satversme of the Republic of Latvia.”

23 / 04 / 2013 The Constitutional Court has proposed to the Cabinet of Ministers to Postpone Deciding on the Extradition of a Latvian Citizen to a Foreign State
On 12 April this year the Constitutional Court received Deniss Čalovskis’ constitutional complaints, which contain, inter alia, the request to suspend enforcement of the decision adopted by the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, i.e., the request to suspend the extradition of the applicant to a foreign state – the United States of America. The applicant notes that the enforcement of this decision may create significant and irreversible violation of his fundamental rights.
