The Constitutional Court continues to hear cases and ensures the continuity of the Court’s work

23.12.2020.

To contain the spread of Covid-19, reinforced epidemiological security measures and gathering restrictions are in place in the state between 21 December and 11 January as part of the emergency situation. The Constitutional Court takes all the necessary actions to prevent the risks for the health of its employees and visitors. The Court has adjusted its working procedures to work remotely to the extent possible, ensuring the continuity of the Court’s work.

“This year, the Constitutional Court has proved that it can adjust its work to complicated conditions and fully perform its functions also during an emergency situation. I confirm that also at this time applications keep being accepted and processed. Cases are prepared and heard within the time periods stipulated by law. The Constitutional Court is working to ensure timely and effective protection of infringed rights,” stressed the President of the Court Sanita Osipova.

All the potential applicants, case participants and summoned persons are invited to use only electronic means for communication with the Court, or, alternatively, put the documents in the post box at the Constitutional Court’s entrance gates.

Considering the emergency situation announced in the state and the increased spread of Covid-19, the formal sitting of the Constitutional Court on the occasion of the opening of the court year, which was due to take place on 7 January 2021, is postponed to 4 February 2021. Information about the formal sitting will be published closer to the event date.

The court hearings with the participation of the parties to the case scheduled for January and February, as well as the dialogue activities scheduled for these months, will be held remotely in view of the epidemiological requirements and the restrictions on gatherings introduced in the state. It will be possible, as usual, to watch such hearings live on the YouTube channel of the Court. Please follow the information on the Court’s website www.satv.tiesa.gov.lv and in its Twitter account @Satv_tiesa.
