The Constitutional Court concludes the first stage in the experience sharing project with the Constitutional Court of Moldova

With a discussion on the current judicature of constitutional courts, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia concluded the first stage in the experience sharing project “Strengthening the Capacity of the Legal Service of the Constitutional Court of Moldova”.

During the first stage of the project, nine lawyers from the Constitutional Court of Moldova worked independently with materials prepared by the project experts and also participated in lectures and discussions on the role of constitutional courts in a democratic state governed by the rule of law, organisation of constitutional courts’ work, admissibility criteria for applications, methodology for assessing a restriction on fundamental rights, legal effects of a constitutional court’s judgement, and other topical issues of constitutional law. Lectures and discussions were organised in the form of webinars.

In the first stage of the project, lectures were given and discussions moderated by Kristaps Tamužs, the Head of the Legal Department of the Latvian Constitutional Court, and constitutional law expert Alla Spale. Elīna Podzorova, the Advisor to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia, managed the project and was involved in preparing the study materials.

Lawyers of the Constitutional Court of Moldova have expressed their gratitude for the possibility to improve their knowledge, have appreciated highly the study materials prepared by project experts, discussions, and organisation of the project in general.

Experience sharing for Judges of the Constitutional Court of Moldova is planned in the second stage of the project, scheduled for November of the current year.

The experience sharing project is implemented with the financial aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia provided under funds of the budget program 07.00.00 “Development projects for cooperation and international aid”.
