09.09.2019.

From 4 to 6 September, Vice-president of the Constitutional Court Sanita Osipova and Justice Aldis Laviņš will participate in the annual conference of the European Law Institute in Vienna.

The conference will provide an opportunity to the Justices to gain information about recent developments in the European Union law in various areas; however, the issues of the development of technology law will be one of the main topics for discussions: how to use Artificial Intelligence in the process of administration, how to use block-chains and smart contracts, the impact of technology on other areas of law and their development.

The European Law Institute was established in 2011 to unite representatives of the European legal professions and institutions with the aim of improving the quality of the European Union law. The principles of its activities are based on research and proposing practical recommendations in the context of development and integration of the European law. Over the years, it has turned into an important forum both for the development of legal thought and for establishing contacts.

In January 2019, upon invitation by the European Law Institute, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia has become its Institutional Observer. This status ensures the possibility to use the Institute’s network of communications, fast access to relevant information in the area of European law and to communicate with all representatives of the Institute.
