The President of the European Court of Human Rights is visiting Latvia

The next week, April 14 – 16 the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Mr. Jean Paul Costa will pay an official visit to Latvia. Mr. Costa will be accompanied by a justice of the ECHR Ineta Ziemele and the Deputy Registrar of the ECHR Mr. Michael O’Boyle.

Mr. Costa will have a meeting with the Latvian President Valdis Zatlers and the Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis. It is also planned to meet with the Minister of Justice Mareks Segliņš, the Minister of Foreign Affaris Māris Riekstiņš and the Deputy Chairperson of the Saeima (Parliament) Solvita Āboltiņa. During the visit, it is also planned to meet with justices and employees of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, as well as the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Latvia Jānis Maizītis.

The delegation of the ECHR will also visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia. On April 14, at 11:15 a.m. Mr. Costa will deliver a public lecture “Mutual Relations of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Union Law” at the Riga Graduate School of Law. At the end of the visit, on Thursday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m., a press conference will be organized in the Hall of the Constitutional Court, J. Alunāna Street 1, Riga.

The visit of the President of the ECHR and the delegation is organized by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia in collaboration with the ECHR and  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
