On the Conference of European Constitutional Court

The Conference of European Constitutional Court was established in 1972. This organisation unites representatives from 41 European constitutional courts and other bodies implementing the constitutional review. It has evolved into the most important European forum, where its members share experience and opinion on matters of constitutional law. The purpose of the organisation is to reinforce the independence of constitutional courts, democracy and the rule of law, and to promote respect for the fundamental rights.

Only a Court, which is a full-fledged member of Conference of European Constitutional Courts, can become its Presiding Court in rotating order every three years. From 2017 to 2020, the organisation is headed by the Czech Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia became a full member of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts in 2000.
