Participants of the summer school of legal science from Germany and Latvia visit the Constitutional Court

Today, on 10 August 2018, a delegation of “Projekt Netzwerk Ost-West” participants, including law students from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, as well as recent graduates of these Universities. At the Constitutional Court the delegation was welcomed by the Justice of the Constitutional Court Daiga Rezevska and employees of the Constitutional Court: Ketija Strazda, the Assistant to the President of the Constitutional Court, Ketija Strazda, Uldis Krastiņš, the Adviser to the Court, and Andris Pumpišs, the Assistant to a Justice.

During the visit, the employees of the Constitutional Court told the members of the delegation about the history, jurisdiction and functions of the Constitutional Court, about the model of constitutional review in Latvia, and the daily work of the Court. The delegation was also informed about the procedure for proposing and approving to the office of the Justices of the Constitutional Court, about their mandate; likewise, a more extensive insight was given into the legal proceedings before the Constitutional Court, underscoring the important role of the Court in reinforcing the values of Latvia as a democratic state governed by the rule of law.

The Justice Daiga Rezevska told the members of the delegation about the most relevant cases heard by the Constitutional Court, drawing attention to the conclusions made by the Court and findings included in the judgements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Justice Daiga Rezevska presented to the representatives of the Universities the collection of the most important judgements by the Constitutional Court in English, which includes the most significant judgements adopted and promulgated by the Constitutional Court, she invited to use this collection in the study process and include it in the collection of the Universities libraries.
