Legal Advisor to the Constitutional Court participates in the meeting of the Constitutional Justice – Joint Council of the Venice Commission

From 22 to 24 May Kristaps Tamužs, Legal Advisor to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia participated in the meeting of the Constitutional Justice-Joint Council of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission) in Rome, Italy.

The Council of Constitutional Justice unites representatives from the constitutional courts and institutions of constitutional review of the member states of the Council of Europe. This Council was established to promote judicial dialogue and exchange of information about activities and case law of courts.

Cooperation of the previous year is reviewed and assessed at the annual meeting; likewise, scheduled future measures for promoting judicial communication are discussed. As part of the meeting, a discussion on the case law of constitutional courts was held, focusing on Constitutional Court role in strengthening the independence of the judiciary.
