Justices and an employee of the Constitutional Court awarded Badges of Hounour of the Justice System

On Thursday, 3 May, an awards ceremony of the Ministry of Justice and the justice system was held at the National Library of Latvia, during which the Badges of Honour of the Justice System, awarded by the Awards Council of the Justice System, were presented. The aim of the award of the justice system is to highlight special achievements and contribution to the development of the Latvian justice system and strengthening the rule of law. This year the Badges of Honour of the Justice System were awarded also the Ineta Ziemele, the President of the Constitutional Court, and Daiga Rezevska, the Justice of the Constitutional Court, as well as to Laila Jurcēna, the Advisor to the President of the Constitutional Court.

Ineta Ziemele was awarded the 1st Degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System. It is for contribution to the development of the justice system, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, for particularly significant scientific achievements in the field of law and for increasing the recognisability of Latvia’s image in Europe and beyond, consolidation of the principle of legal certainty and legal expectations, as well as increasing justice.

Daiga Rezevska was awarded the 2nd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System. It is for particularly significant contribution to the development of the justice system and judicature, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as for particulary significant scientific achievements in the field of law, development of international relations and promoting knowledge and professionalism of officials belonging to the system of justice.

Laila Jurcēna was awarded the 3rd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System. It is for exemplary, honest and creative performance of job duties in the field of justice, as well as for significant contribution to international cooperation in the field of justice, development of judicature and promoting knowledge and professionalism of officials belonging to the system of justice.

Upon receiving the award, Ineta Ziemele addressed those present: “Let’s make this state even more beautiful and let’s strengthen the rule of law! Only a state governed by the rule of law, with a system of checks and balances between all branches of power in place, is a strong state.”
