Justice of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš participates in the Congress of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions

From 16 May to 17 May, Justice of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš will participate in the Third Congress of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions, which will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia. This year the role of constitutional courts in the process of European integration will be discussed at the Congress.

Three working sessions will be organised in the framework of the Congress, the participants will listen to reports and discuss a number of related topics, including harmonisation of the national and the EU law, as well as the importance of constitutional courts and aspects of constitutional identity in the process of European integration.

The Congress is organised by the Constitutional Court of Georgia in cooperation with the Commission of the Council of Europe “Democracy through Law” (the Venice Commission), with the support of the European Union Funds.

On the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions

The Association was established in 2015 by the Presidents of the Constitutional Courts of Lithuania, Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova. The aim of the Association is to strengthen the role of constitutional courts in a democratic society governed by the rule of law, to safeguard fundamental human rights, and to promote regional cooperation of constitutional courts.
