Employees of the Constitutional Court’s Chancery visit the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic to share experience

From the 7th to the 10th January, the deputy-head of the Chancery of the Constitutional Court Ieva Spriņģe, the secretary of the President Anete Spunde and the librarian Ilze Bierne-Alsiņa visited the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic (hereinafter – Czechia) in Brno, Czechia. During the visit, the employees met the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court of Czechia Jaroslav Fenyk, the Secretary General of the Court Vlastimil Gottinger, and employees of the Court.

During the visit, the employees of the Latvian Constitutional Court had the possibility to gain an insight into the organisation of the Court’s day-to-day work, the procedures and course of the work, as well as to discuss a number of relevant issues pertaining to the organisation of the Court’s work, for instance, the application of the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data on the free movement of such data.

While visiting the library, the employees gained an insight into the collection of the library and were informed about the way the effective daily use of the library is ensured to provide for the needs of the Court’s employees. Editions presented by the Latvian Constitutional Court were added to the library’s collection: several publications in English, including rulings by the Latvian Constitutional Court and conference papers from the international conferences organised by the Latvian Constitutional Court.

After the visit, the employees of the Latvian Constitutional Court acknowledged that the experience sharing had been very valuable and that the knowledge gained would be useful in performing their daily duties of office. The employees underscored that both Courts were facing similar challenges that required implementation of IT solutions.

The visit was organised by the Constitutional Court of Czechia in co-operation with the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia. The purpose of the visit was to promote the judicial dialogue, share experience, to gain new practical skills for improving the effectiveness of the Court’s administrative work.
