Election of the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court will be held

Election of the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court will be held on Tuesday, 16 May, at 12.00 in the courtroom of the Constitutional Court at 1 Jura Alunāna Street, in Riga.

Until 31 March 2017 Uldis Ķinis served as the Vice-president of the Constitutional Court. On 31 March 2017 Uldis Ķinis’ mandate of the Justice of the Constitutional Court expired.

Election Procedure

The Vice-president of the Constitutional Court is elected by the Justices of the Constitutional Court in secret ballot from amongst themselves.

Election is held at an open court sitting. The candidates for the Vice-president’s office are nominated during the court sitting. The candidate declares, whether he or she agrees to be nominated.

The vote is organised and the ballots are counted by the secretary of the court sitting. The ballots are counted in the presence of all members of the Court. After the ballots have been counted, the chairperson of the court sitting announces the outcome of vote. The Vice-president is elected, if the respective candidate has received the absolute majority vote.

The Vice-president’s term of mandate is three years.
