A justice of the Constitutional Court Ms. Sanita Osipova starts working

Today, on August 17th after taking a judge’s oath, a justice Ms. Sanita Osipova starts working.

Ms. Sanita Osipova was born on 1968. In 1991, she graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, and in 1998 she obtained doctor’s degree at the same University by presenting her thesis “The Rights of the Luebeck City and Influence thereof on the Cities of Hanseatic League”.

From 1991 to 2001, Ms. Sanita Osipova worked at the Department of Theory of Law and Political Sciences of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia as an assistant and a lecturer up to 2998, and further as an associate profession. From 1998 to 1999, she administered the work of the Department of Law at the School of Business Administration “Turiba”. From 1999 to 2001, she was a dean and associate professor of the Faculty of Law of the School of Business Administration “Turiba”. From 2001 up to her confirmation at the position of a justice of the Constitutional Court, Ms. Sanita Osipova was a head of the Department of Theory of Law and History of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. In 2006, Ms. Sanita Osipova was elected a professor of the University of Latvia.

Ms. Sanita Osipova has performed broad scientific researches and presented reports at international scientific conferences, as well as translated books. As a guest lecturer and a guest scientist, she worked at the Wilhelm Westphal Univeristy in Minster.

Ms. Sanita Osipova is the author of more than 40 different publications on the theory of law and its history, as well as issues of sociology of law. Likewise, Ms. Sanita Osipova has taken an active part and lead different projects of law, as well as scientific, academic and professional committees.

On 14 July 2011, the Saeima [Parliament] confirmed Ms. Sanita Osipova as a justice of the Constitutional Court for the term of 10 years.
