Viktors Skudra

Vice-President of the Constitutional Court
Viktors Skudra was born on 10 July 1943.

In 1973, he graduated the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia.

From 1970, Viktors Skudra worked at a prosecutor’s office; initially it was the prosecutor’s office of the Riga City District Prosecutor’s office [Rīgas pilsētas rajona prokuratūra] as an inspector and an assistant to the prosecutor, and then he held the office of a prosecutor in Saldus and Ventspils. Finally he became Deputy General Prosecutor.

From 1988 to 1993, Viktors Skudra was a Minister of Justice of Latvia. From 1993, he started working as a sworn advocate and a Head of a law office.

At the end of 2006, he was confirmed by the Saeima (Parliament) a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and he took the office in January 2007. In 2010 Viktors Skudra was elected Vice-President of the Constitutional Court.

For merits during restoration of independence of Latvia in the period from 1989 to 1991, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, Fourth Class.

The judge died on 22 May 2011.
