Kaspars Balodis

Judge of the Constitutional Court

Kaspars Balodis was born on May 15, 1971.

In 1993, he graduated the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. In 1994, he obtained a master’s degree in Law at the Faculty of Law of the Muenster University but in 2000 he was granted a doctoral degree at the same University.

From 1994 to 1995, Kaspars Balodis worked as a lawyer in the attorneys office “Heidelberga”. In 1996, he started working at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia: as an assistant until 1998, as a lecturer – until 2001, and since then – as associate professor in Civil law. In 2016 became a professor. In 2001 Kaspars Balodis was appointed as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia but, from 2002 to 2006 – the Dean.

On 14 December 2006 the Saeima appointed Kaspars Balodis as a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and he entered this office on 31 January 2007.

His mandate of a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia expired on 31 March 2017.
